We recommend retaining the original check for 60 days after deposit. This provides time for any potential returns or disputes. After 60 days, you should securely destroy the check (shredding recommended). Check images are available in online banking for 7 years.
If a deposited check is returned unpaid, we'll notify you through online banking and deduct the amount from your account. You'll be able to view the returned check image and reason code. A returned item fee of $12 may apply. You can then attempt to collect from the check issuer.
